VDI-LAB-2018 – Part 12 – Deploying a linked-clone desktop pool

Finally! Let’s add the first desktop pool to our environment. This is the easiest part of the whole series (if you followed the proper configurations, notes, and pieces of advice). This is the part 12 out of 12 of the VDI-LAB 2018 series.

VDI-LAB-2018 – Part 11 – Create a Windows 10 Golden Image

It is time to create and optimize the golden image that we will use to deploy all our desktops. The primary purpose of this golden image is to run a basic test with the Login VSI benchmark tool, so I will optimize a Windows 10 VM to get the best performance (low latency) and user experience (low applications response times). It could be used as an essential guide for any deployments with Horizon View.

VDI-LAB-2018 – Part 10 – Signed Certificate for Horizon Connection Server

We need to create a signed certificate for Horizon 7 connection server. First thing is installing in our Domain Controller the Certificate Service role, then configure the certificates template and finally, apply this certificate to the Horizon Connection Server

VDI-LAB-2018 – Part 9 – Installing and configuring Horizon 7 Connection Server

In this part, we are going to install Horizon 7 connection server and then configure View Administrator, that is the web-based platform to perform all desktops operations. This is the part 9 out of 12 of the VDI-LAB 2018 series. Check out the introduction first.

VDI-LAB-2018 – Part 8 – Installing Horizon 7 Composer

In this part, we are going to install VMware Horizon Composer. First, we need to prepare the server before the installation, adding the Composer user created on the domain controller, applying user rights and preparing SQL Server native client (For this configuration we are going to use same steps in part 7 of this series). Then, we can proceed with the Horizon Composer installation.

VDI-LAB-2018 – Part 7 – Installing and configuring vCenter server 6.5

In this part, we are going to install and configure vCenter server 6.5 (Windows-based). First, we need to prepare the server before the installation, adding the vCenter user created on the domain controller, applying user rights and preparing SQL Server native client. Then, we can proceed with the vCenter installation and initial configuration.

VDI-LAB-2018 – Part 6 – Installing and configuring SQL Server 2017

In this part, we are going to install and configure SQL server 2017, then create the databases for vCenter server, View Composer and View Events. Also, important configurations will be made in order to add this user later on to a View Connection server. This is the part 6 out of 12 of the VDI-LAB 2018 series. Check out the introduction first.

Although the Raspberry Pi OS is designed and optimized for the Raspberry Pi module, it is possible to test and use it without its hardware, with VMware. This solution can be useful if you are a developer (or just a curious guy) and don't have a Raspberry Pi module with you
Unable to delete inaccessible datastore

Unable to delete an "inaccessible" datastore

I was switching my storage array, so I migrated the VMs from that old datastore/storage to a new datastore/storage. The old datastore was shared by 3 ESXi hosts, no cluster. After migrating the VMs and unmount/delete the datastore, it was still presented in two of the ESXi hosts and was marked as inaccessible.

Unable to Access the VCSA 6.7 via WinSCP

One of the many and easiest ways to get the logs from the ESXi hosts and vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA), is accessing directly to the files directory using tools such as WinSCP, which helps to transfer the files between a local and a remote computer ( Ex. VCSA). I never have had issues with the ESXi hosts and WinSCP, however, trying to access the VCSA is a different story.
