Delete an orphaned replica

Problem:

Sometimes when playing with your VDI environment, you might get a replica (or some VMs) stuck on vCenter. If you try to right-click on the replica, the option for "Remove from Inventory" and "Delete from Disk" will be grayed out. And at the end of the name of the replica (long name...), you will see "(Orphaned)".

Solution:

Note: From the images ignore the maintenance mode hosts. This is not necessary for solving this issue.

For solving this issue, follow the steps below:

  1. First of all, identify the host that contains the replica.
replica2

2. Right-click on the host and click Disconnect.

replica3

3. Remove the host from vCenter. Right-click on the host and click Remove.

replica4

4. You can confirm now that the replica has been removed.

replica5

5. Add the server again to your cluster.

Other solutions:

  • KB-1011468
  • If a VM  is stuck (in View Administrator) instead of a replica, you can follow the solution in my previous post.

Although the Raspberry Pi OS is designed and optimized for the Raspberry Pi module, it is possible to test and use it without its hardware, with VMware. This solution can be useful if you are a developer (or just a curious guy) and don't have a Raspberry Pi module with you
Unable to delete inaccessible datastore

Unable to delete an "inaccessible" datastore

I was switching my storage array, so I migrated the VMs from that old datastore/storage to a new datastore/storage. The old datastore was shared by 3 ESXi hosts, no cluster. After migrating the VMs and unmount/delete the datastore, it was still presented in two of the ESXi hosts and was marked as inaccessible.
