Configuring the Session Timeout for VMware Horizon 7

What:

In my previous post, I wrote about how to configure the session timeout for vSphere 6.7 using the HTML5 web client. For VDI environments, vSphere Client is not the only used console, the Horizon Administrator Client is the one to manipulate for about 50% of the time, hence, configuring its timeout is important for smooth/secure management.

The Horizon 7 Administrator terminates the sessions after 30 minutes of idle time by default, and the same reasons why to do it in vSphere Client applies to Horizon 7.

  • Improve the login security of productions environments and reduce resources consumption on the Connection Server. Ensuring that the sessions automatically logout after a certain period of time.
  • Avoid the session to constantly logout. Probably you are just starting a new deployment that may require a bit of time to configure; or you are testing out a lab.

Changing this configuration for Horizon 7 Administrator is way easier than vSpehre Client, but in here, is not possible to set the session to never time out, the maximum period of time that can be set is 72 hours.

How:

  1. Form Horizon 7 Administrator Inventory, go to View Configuration / Global Settings / Edit

  1. Change View Administrator session timeout from 30 to 4320 (minutes). And Forcibly disconnect users to Never.
